Have you checked your power supply at the power point where the air compressor is plugged in? If your power is under 230V this increases your AMP draw and can overload the thermal overload switch or blow your capacitor, please check your power at the power point – Also refer to My air compressor has oil coming from the pump / Air blowing out continuously from my pressure switch?
This means you may have blown your starting capacitor, please check your power supply at the power point where the air compressor is plugged in, If your power is under 230V this increases your AMP draw and can overload the thermal overload switch or blow your capacitor, please check your power at the power point.
Please check the air intake filters as they could be blocked, also take off your air intake filters and check the suction of the head by placing your hand over where the filter screws on to see if its got good suction on the head, if it doesn’t grab your hand when running you may have blown a valve or gasket – make sure your air breather on the pump isn’t blocked with contaminants/dirt, if so clean as this has pressurised the sump of the pump and caused a blowout of the gasket or burn out of the valve/s (repair kits can be purchased – advise of model and year purchased with proof of purchase attached)
Changing your Valves and Gaskets
Please isolate the air compressors air (make sure that its only pumping air into its tank and not anywhere else), once this has been done, time how long it takes to build up pressure to 100PSI and that the air compressor cuts out / turns off once pressure has built up, make sure that the air compressor makes a burst of air released from under the pressure switch - no burst of air from pressure switch? This means your sump is pressurised, excess head pressure (air) gets released by bursting air from under the pressure switch, if this doesn’t occur that excess air is causing your pump sump to maintain pressure and will blow out the pump breather along with your compressor oil – this needs to be fixed asap as this can lead to major pump failure. If you air compressor builds up air within the Peerless Products pump up times (Refer to Peerless Products for your pump up time specification) your air compressor is running fine, now re pressurise your air lines with nothing running, make sure there is no further movement on the air gauge, if there is you have air leaks, air leaks create a huge problem, your trying to supply enough air to your air leaks along with the tools your trying to operate causing longer run times to your pump (longer the pump runs creates extra heat then causes the oil to atomise and vent out the breather) once the air leaks have been fixed this should fix the oil coming out over the pump.
This can be a quick fix – follow the black or copper hose from under the pressure switch back to a brass fitting, this has an inspection nut on the side of it that’s connect to the tank which also has a hose connected from the pump, make sure there is no air pressure in the tank, take off the inspection nut, be careful that you take notice of how it comes out as it has to go back in the same way, the spring and Teflon seal will come out, make sure that the face of the Teflon seal has no cracks or major markings or anything stuck on it, wipe off any particles (if cracked, this needs to be replaced – reorder through Peerless) then place back and only hand tighten inspection nut, do not over tighten!, start your air compressor again and let it cycle and cut out, this should had fixed your leak. (This seal prevents tank pressure heading back to the heads of the pump, if this is open this will create that leak from under the pressure switch along with creating extra electrical load on your motor as its trying to start with resistance, this will also cause motor failure if this part is not checked or replaced – this is a serviceable part).
